Botox® and Xeomin® are cosmetic injectables derived from ‘Botulinum Toxin Type A’, a neurotoxin. When injected into specific muscles, these treatments block nerve signals, temporarily relaxing the muscle's activity. This results in a reduction of wrinkles and fine lines, as the muscle stops contracting and causing creases in the skin.
XEOMIN® has been thoroughly tested in multiple clinical trials and proven to deliver results. In frown-line treatment studies, XEOMIN® anti-wrinkle injections improved the appearance of frown lines in over 95% of patients within 1 month of treatment and desirable effects were maintained for up to 4 months. Additional clinical trials have shown that XEOMIN® is also highly effective for the treatment of horizontal frown lines and crow’s feet with results maintained for up to 4 months.
Be sure to read our Frequently Asked Questions below for more information about these treatments.

Frequently asked questions.
1. What is Botox® or Xeomin®, and how do they work?
Botox® and Xeomin® are cosmetic injectables derived from ‘Botulinum Toxin Type A’, a neurotoxin. When injected into specific muscles, these treatments block nerve signals, temporarily relaxing the muscle's activity. This results in a reduction of wrinkles and fine lines, as the muscle stops contracting and causing creases in the skin.
2. What areas can Botox® and Xeomin®, treat?
Botox® and Xeomin® are commonly used to treat facial wrinkles and fine lines, particularly around the forehead, between the eyebrows (glabellar lines), and around the eyes (crow's feet). Additionally, it can be used to treat medical conditions like chronic migraines, excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), and muscle spasms.
3. Is Botox® and Xeomin®, safe?
When administered by a licensed and experienced medical professional, such as our Registered Cosmetic Nurses at UP®, Botox® and Xeomin® are considered safe for most individuals. However, as with any medical procedure, there can be potential side effects to be aware of, such as bruising, swelling, or temporary muscle weakness. It is crucial to disclose your medical history and medications to your Registerd Nurse to ensure its safety.
4. How long does Botox® or Xeomin® last?
The effects of Botox® and Xeomin® typically last between 3 to 4 months, or up to 9 months in certain circumstances. After this period, the muscle activity gradually returns, and wrinkles may start to reappear. Regular maintenance treatments are necessary to maintain the results.
5. Is Botox® or Xeomin® a painful procedure?
Botox® and Xeomin® injections are generally well-tolerated and relatively painless. The needles used for injections are very fine, causing minimal discomfort. Some individuals may experience mild stinging or a slight pinch during the procedure, which dissipates almost instantaneously.
6. What is the downtime after Botox® or Xeomin®?
Injections usually take only a few minutes, and there is little to no downtime. Most people can resume their regular activities immediately after the treatment. However, it is advisable to avoid strenuous exercise and lying down for a few hours post-injection, and to avoid invasive procedures such as facial massages, dermabrasion or extreme hot and cold immediately after your treatment. Your Cosmetic Nurse will provide you with a comprehensive pre and post-treatment care guide which steps you through these considerations.
7. Are there any potential side effects of Botox® or Xeomin®?
Common side effects may include mild bruising, swelling, or redness at the injection sites. In rare cases, some individuals may experience headaches, flu-like symptoms or other localised events. These side effects are typically temporary and resolve on their own. Your Cosmetic Nurse will provide you with a full list of potential side-effects and mitigation strategies prior to and following your treatment.
8. Who should avoid Botox® or Xeomin®?
Individuals who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a history of allergic reactions to botulinum toxin should avoid these injections. Additionally, those with certain neuromuscular disorders may not be suitable candidates for the treatment. Your Cosmetic Nurse will undertake full assessment prior to your treatment to confirm suitability and discuss any contraindications or matters of note with you.
9. How much does Botox® or Xeomin® cost?
Botox® and Xeomin® treatments are both priced the same and the cost of either product varies depending on the number of units required.
Prices start from $18.50 for 1-27 units; $18 for 28-40 units and $17.50 for 41 units or more. See pricing above for more details.
10. Are there alternatives to Botox® or Xeomin® for wrinkle reduction?
There are other non-surgical alternatives for wrinkle reduction at UP®, including treatments such as DP [Gold ATP] microneedling, which promotes the production of collagen and cell-turnover for reduction of fine lines and wrinkles; dermal fillers, which add volume to areas with deeper wrinkles; and laser treatments that stimulate collagen production.
UP® also stocks a range of clinic-only skincare products, such as O Cosmedics; Image Skincare and DP Dermaceuticals which are designed to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and are ideal for use both as standalone products or to enhance wrinkle reduction treatments at UP®.
Each alternative option has its benefits and limitations, and the most suitable treatment will depend on individual needs and goals. Consulting with your Cosmetic Nurse is essential to determine the best approach for your specific case.
