Frequently asked questions.
How does lash retention actually work?
Lash extensions are applied to individual natural lashes, which grow and shed in a continuous cycle. Most people naturally shed between 2–5 lashes per day per eye. As the natural lash reaches the end of its growth cycle, the extension sheds with it.
For most clients, infills are recommended every 2–3 weeks to maintain fullness and structure. Retention varies depending on natural lash cycle, oil production, lifestyle factors and adherence to aftercare guidance.
Our application techniques are designed to support healthy retention without compromising natural lash integrity.
What influences how long my lashes last?
Longevity is influenced by several factors:
• Natural lash growth cycle
• Skin type and oil production
• Environmental factors, exposure to steam, heat
• Aftercare practices
• Adhesive compatibility
We select adhesive systems and application methods based on environmental conditions and individual client factors to optimise longevity, while prioritising lash health.
What is lash isolation and why does it matter?
Isolation refers to the precise separation of each natural lash before an extension is applied. Proper isolation prevents multiple natural lashes from being bonded together, which can cause tension, discomfort, premature shedding and above all, damage to natural lashes.
At UP®, meticulous isolation is a foundational standard of our training and quality control process. This provides that extensions move naturally with each individual lash; lashes are not applied to the skin; and long-term lash health is protected. In doing so, we ensure damage to natural lashes is eliminated; lashes are comfortable to wear and that they are long-lasting.
How do you customise lash styling?
Every lash set begins with an eye and facial balance assessment. We consider:
• Eye shape and lid structure
• Natural lash strength and density
• Brow position and facial symmetry
• Desired aesthetic (soft refinement vs glamour styling)
Using structured lash mapping techniques, we design a set that enhances your natural features rather than overpowering them. Many of our clients prefer refined, professional results suited to workplace environments, while others opt for fuller styling — both are approached with the same technical precision.
Are lash extensions safe for natural lashes?
When applied correctly, lash extensions should not damage healthy natural lashes.
Damage typically occurs from:
• Poor isolation or adhesion to skin
• Excessive adhesive use
• Extensions that are too heavy for the natural lash
• Removal without proper technique
Our stylists are trained to select extension weight and length appropriate for your natural lash strength, ensuring comfort, flexibility and long-term lash health.
What hygiene standards do you follow?
Lash services at UP® are delivered within documented hygiene protocols aligned with our broader clinic infection control systems.
These include:
• Tools sanitised before every single client.
• Controlled adhesive handling.
• Single-use consumables where appropriate
• Clean workstation preparation between clients
• Patch testing protocols for new clients
• Defined scope of practice for all practitioners
Our focus is not only aesthetic refinement, but consistency, safety and professional standards.
How often should I book infills?
Infills are typically recommended every 2–3 weeks to maintain fullness and structure. Waiting longer than 3–4 weeks may result in insufficient extensions remaining to perform an infill, requiring a new full set.
Your stylist will advise a personalised maintenance schedule based on your lash cycle and styling choice.
Who may not be suitable for lash extensions?
Lash extensions may not be suitable for clients experiencing:
• Active eye infections
• Severe blepharitis
• Recent eye surgery
• Known adhesive sensitivities
If you have any concerns, we recommend discussing them during your consultation so we can determine suitability and, if necessary, perform patch testing. Or select “allergen test” when booking and we’ll take care of the rest.
Are lash lifts safe?
When performed within appropriate protocols, lash lifts are safe for healthy natural lashes.
At UP®, lash lifts are delivered using controlled processing times, structured lash assessment, and product compatibility checks to prevent over-processing or excessive dehydration of the natural lash. Unlike other providers, we have a range of lash-lift tools and products to suit each client’s design and lash health outcomes.
We assess:
• Natural lash strength and density
• Previous chemical exposure
• Lash integrity
• Eye sensitivity history
We do not proceed if lashes show signs of fragility or damage. Our focus is on preserving natural lash health rather than pursuing short-term intensity that may compromise long-term condition. Through detailed consultation, our stylists assess individual goals and guide each client toward results that are both refined and sustainable.
How do you support lash health during a lift?
All lash lifts at UP® incorporate KRT.ONE® keratin infusion technology as part of our standard protocol.
Lash lifting temporarily restructures the natural lash shape. Incorporating KRT.ONE® keratin helps support the integrity of the lash fibre during and after this process.
KRT.ONE® is used to:
• Reinforce lash structure
• Support flexibility
• Increase lash hydration
• Promote smoother regrowth
How do you prevent over-processing during a lash lift?
Over-processing can occur when lifting solutions are left on for excessive durations or when lash condition is not properly assessed beforehand.
Our protocol includes:
• Pre-treatment lash integrity assessment
• Timed, structured processing intervals
• Controlled product selection
• Post-treatment conditioning
We do not apply identical timing to every client. Processing is adjusted according to individual lash thickness and resilience to protect long-term lash health.
What is the LUMABOND™ LED Lash Lift and how is it different?
UP® utilises LUMABOND™ LED technology as part of selected lash lift treatments. This system uses controlled LED exposure to assist in product bonding and consistency during the lifting process.
The LED light system complies with the international standard IEC62471 relating to the photobiological safety of lamps and lamp systems used around the eyes. The device has also been certified as safe for professional use by the Japan Federation of Eyelash Extension Manufacturers (JFEEM).
This certification confirms that the wavelength and intensity fall within safe exposure parameters for periocular use when operated according to manufacturer guidelines.
In addition, we use medical-grade silicone eye pads during treatment to provide stability, comfort and an additional protective barrier.
The result is a structured, controlled lifting process designed to enhance consistency and above all, longevity, while maintaining safety standards.
“I have been coming back here for lash treatments for years. All of the staff I have dealt with are very professional and very gentle on my eyes. The results always come out great and I have referred my friends too.”
